چکیده

This paper defines a new method of attribute uncertainty representation, the blinking region. It specifically communicates uncertainty in values associated with choropleth map regions. In this way, error and attribute (census) data can be made to alternate in the user’s view, communicating both datasets. The blinking region uncertainty visualization was tested via a web-based survey. Results show that it outperforms most current visualisation of attribute uncertainty techniques (e.g. image sharpness) in terms of visual appeal, speed of comprehension and overall effectiveness. Theoretically, regions that have the most attribute error could flicker at the fastest rate, with speed of blinking being proportional to the error.

The Visualisation of Uncertainty in Spatially-Referenced Attribute Data using TRUSTworthy Data Structures

This paper presents the use of hierarchical spatial data structures to visualise attribute and spatial uncertainty when using spatial information systems. This is demonstrated using spatially-referenced data from the New Zealand 2001 Census. Firstly, selected current spatial visualisations created to show uncertainty were assessed in an Internet survey, revealing that overall there is not many ...

Visualising Uncertainty in Spatially-Referenced Attribute Data using Hierarchical Spatial Data Structures

This paper presents the use of hierarchical spatial data structures to visualise uncertainty in spatial information. This is demonstrated using spatial data from the New Zealand 2001 Census. Current visualisation of uncertainty techniques are evaluated, and a new method is proposed. This paper assesses the value of hierarchical tree structures as a geovisualisation of attribute uncertainty tech...

Assessment of uncertainty for coal quality-tonnage curves through minimum spatial cross-correlation simulation

Coal quality-tonnage curves are helpful tools in optimum mine planning and can be estimated using geostatistical simulation methods. In the presence of spatially cross-correlated variables, traditional co-simulation methods are impractical and time consuming. This paper investigates a factor simulation approach based on minimization of spatial cross-correlations with the objective of modeling s...

Geostatistical simulation of RQD variable using investigation of spatial continuity between Quaternary alluvial layer and hard rock of Gohar-Zamin mine to the determination of permeable zones

In this research, a sequential Gaussian simulation method has been used to determine the permeable zones in the hard-rock aquifer of the Gohr-Zamin open pit mine. For this purpose, 4946 RQD data from eighty-seven exploratory boreholes was used and exploratory-spatial data analysis of these data was performed using the preliminary statistics, location maps, histograms and variograms. Results of ...

A total entropy model of spatial data uncertainty

Uncertainty is inherent in spatial data and spatio-temporal phenomena. Spatial data uncertainty generally refers to error, inexactness, fuzziness and ambiguity. The goals of research on spatial data uncertainty are to investigate how uncertainties arise, or are created and propagated in the spatial data process. Based on information theory, considering the characteristics of randomicity of posi...
